Workplaces can be challenging environments. In this session, Tracy will discuss some of the social and emotional issues that can arise at work for individuals with high intelligence. We will explore how these situations can be interpreted differently by ourselves and those with whom we interact. You will leave with communication strategies for minimizing conflicts and/or repairing strained relationships. Abstract: Some characteristics of those with high intelligence that set us apart from typical employees include: speed of thinking, high sensitivity, overstimulation of the senses, emotional intensity, creativity, independence, perfectionism, exploratory learning style, and fear of failure. (Nauta, N. & Cortez, F., 2002) This session will explore how some of these characteristics can create tensions in the workplace. We will analyze a few of these situations to see them from multiple perspectives to identify where misunderstandings can occur and outline communication techniques that help create common goals.
