Should the Senate do away with the filibuster? Until recent decades, senators had to actually stand and talk continuously in order to delay passage of a bill. Now any 10 senators can declare a filibuster targeting a bill for failure unless it has 60 votes to pass. Given today’s polarization, that 60-vote minimum has paralyzed the Senate. Has the filibuster become an obsolete and harmful relic of a bygone era? Debate Room is not a heated debate but a fast-paced, moderated discussion where everyone gets to be heard –and the most interesting speaker gets a prize!
