IT7 | Computer Repair/Refurbishment Makes a Difference to Local College Students (Room Dade)

This presentation will examine how Valencia College developed a student-run computer repair shop. The faculty created a training program to develop technicians to repair laptops and PCs. As the demand for repair grew, so did the need to diversify, and students added the ability to repair phones and tablets. The students do this for free but are learning real world skills while helping the student body. This session will address the process of refreshing “old” computers and the importance of working with multiple divisions like HR, IT, and accounting to ensure the program’s success. You will also learn about ancillary benefits, such as helping students improve project management, technical writing, and customer-communication skills.
