Bridging the Owner-Tenant Divide to Unlock New Energy Savings (Room Salt Palace, Room 250 DE)

Increasingly, tenant space efficiency is becoming a differentiator in the real estate market, and the business case is proving beneficial for landlords and tenants alike. Energy-saving opportunities that result in employee productivity generate significant co-benefits. Unfortunately, split incentives between the tenant and landlord lead to significant challenges. As ideal energy performance measures vary by space, this session includes examples of how to overcome those barriers via strong collaboration between owners and tenants across space types such as retail, office, industrial, and multifamily to achieve environmental goals. Hear from the Urban Land Institute, the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Program, and two leading CRE organizations.
