Town Hall Forum: Addressing the Impact of Homelessness on CBD Commercial Real Estate (Room Salt Palace, Ballroom BD)

Many metropolitan areas are grappling with growing rates of homelessness, and BOMA local associations are working to identify potential solutions for their areas in conjunction with city leaders and community nonprofits. These efforts offer an alternative to some initiatives that have been proposed across the country that are designed to raise money to address the issue but lack defined goals or offer temporary solutions with large downsides. One such proposal to allow camping on any outdoor space—including public sidewalks—was just defeated in Denver, in part due to the efforts of BOMA/Denver Metro.

Join us at the Town Hall Forum to explore the challenges and impacts of homelessness on our communities and the commercial real estate industry and learn about efforts to improve the situation. The session will begin with the former mayor of Salt Lake City, Ralph Becker, who is experienced at bringing the public and private sectors together to develop comprehensive strategies on this issue. His remarks will be followed by an open forum where BOMA local association leaders will share what is going on in cities across North America. The forum will also discuss how to create effective partnerships with city leaders, what community groups local associations are supporting, lessons learned and next steps.
