There seems to be a trend among ergonomics practitioners today to look only at certain aspects of ergonomics, i.e., microergonomics. Dr. Rethaber posits that ergonomics is meant to be applied at a systems level — macroergonomics — and that looking only at the limited, micro view may explain why many ergonomics initiatives are either underperforming or not implemented at all.
