The 2020 Pool and Spa Show

RWQC: Analysis and Understanding of Source Water (PHTA University) (Room 412)

Pool openings and routine top-offs of swimming pools can be an unexpected source of issues for pool operators.  Source water composition can impact overall swimming pool chemistry and unexpected changes in source water can have large consequences on pool management strategies.  Chloramination, used in many places around the country to disinfect drinking water, can be a significant source of combined chlorines on fresh fills and/or routine top-offs.  Additionally, metals such as copper, iron, and manganese can be introduced through municipal or well-water systems.  As water tables change, variations in metal content of the fill water can change leading to some unexpected water and surface discoloration issues.  This discussion will include the issues associated with using chloraminated water to fill pools, common problems encountered with fill water, such as high TDS and metal concentration, and information on testing interferences.  The panel will discuss how to anticipate, prevent, and/or address many of these challenges with the latest technologies currently available.  This seminar is a must for operators at any level.
