In Spring 2018, blockage effects were first considered and quantified in some experts’ energy assessments. Last September at this conference, the power curve and turbine interaction implications of blockage were introduced and explained. More than a year later, where do the experts stand on the topic? This session will summarize the range of expert perspectives on blockage effects and include a dialogue about the advantages and disadvantages of the various approaches employed to quantify blockage. We will pay particular attention to identifying and debating conceptual and methodological disagreements between experts. Additionally, the speakers will share recommendations on how to mitigate blockage effects in the wind farm design stage.
