Tracks: Project Financing

Reliable on-site measurement data is key to reducing the uncertainty of offshore wind resource assessments. Traditionally, met masts and high-quality anemometry have been the norm and are ideal. However, they are prohibitively expensive, and may not yield the lowest uncertainty with ever-increasing turbine hub heights. As a result, Floating LiDAR Systems (FLS) are a focal point of any offshore wind measurement campaign. In this presentation, DNV GL explores the risks associated with an FLS only measurement campaign for wind resource assessments, including measurement uncertainty, project financing, and ultimately asks the question of whether projects can or should be financed on floating lidar data alone.
