The CLVLT exam is administered by AOLP and is the only national certification of its kind. With no clearly defined national standards for low voltage outdoor lighting, AOLP created this standardized certification test to address the lack of standards that presently exist. The CLVLT exam measures the knowledge and capabilities of applicants and is specifically for 12-volt systems. The test consists of seven half-hour labs and a written exam. There is no classroom instruction prior to the exam. Upon receiving a passing grade, applicants are listed as Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technicians (CLVLT).
