The SPF industry has been faced with several direct challenges to our businesses stemming from the professional pest management industry over recent years. Pest management contractors (PMC) especially in the south, along with the pest industry association NPMA, have claimed that SPF makes it “nearly impossible” to inspect for termites and other wood destroying organisms leading to some PMCs voiding existing warranties for SPF customers, denying inspection/treatment warranties for SPF customers, and/or denying to issue pest bonds for real estate transactions for SPF customers. They have engaged in market forces, code and regulatory bodies to impede SPF’s presence in their markets in a very coordinated fashion. Additionally the fumigation side of the pest industry issued letters disallowing the use of their fumigant products on homes with SPF, leading fumigation contractors to deny SPF customers of needed fumigations that may save their homes from infestation. The SPF industry, SPFA, and the Sprayfoam Coalition of ACC have been involved in attempts to resolve these issues.
