The Louisiana Black Bear (LBB) was listed as threatened and placed on the Endangered Species List in 1992, citing habitat loss and over exploitation. State, federal, and other partners worked together to recover the LBB, leading to the removal of ESA protections in the spring of 2016. This seminar will cover steps taken to recover the LBB and the role hunters and private landowners played (and continue to play) in this process. Also included, will be the pending litigation by parties attempting to force the USFWS to relist the LBB to prevent the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries from implementing management actions, including proposing a hunting season.
