Dr. Marcia M. L. Yu joined the Burnaby office of L.B. Foster Rail Technologies as a field applications specialist in 2010. With her formal training in analytical chemistry, Marcia has developed a range of practical railway tribological engineering knowledge and has applied such knowledge to techniques such as rail wear, sound, fuel, lateral force, and rail corrugation analyses. Prior to starting her railroad career at L.B. Foster (an AREMA member), Marcia worked in the Trace Evidence division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police National Forensic Laboratory Services where she perfected various analytical instrumentation techniques. Marcia has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia and her work has been published in Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, Journal of Forensic Sciences, Planta, and Applied Spectroscopy.
