Michael Papapetrou graduated in physics in 1999 from the University of Athens and received his MSc in power production and management from the National Technical University of Athens in 2000. He was also awarded an MSc from Imperial College London in 2003 on Environmental Technology, specialising in energy policy. In 2004 he started working with WIP in Munich, as a leader of research projects in the clean energy and water sectors. Over the past 11 years he has been involved with more than 20 research projects, on a wide range of topics like the integration of renewable energy into the grid, applications of renewable energy for water treatment and research in new technologies like salinity gradient power. Among others he has coordinated the project stoRE that focused on the regulatory aspects of energy storage, and the project REAPower that resulted in the first installation in the world to be generating electricity from brine and brackish water.
