David Trauernicht
Principal Scientist
MicroGen Systems
Dr. David P. Trauernicht joined MicroGen as the Principal Scientist after 27 years as a research scientist at Eastman Kodak. He has a very diverse and versatile career background. His initial work in digital radiographic imaging involved designing and building custom characterization systems for novel phosphor materials, understanding noise factors related to radiographic image quality and system level optimization of computed radiography and direct digital imaging systems. During this time, he served as the group leader for the phosphor materials research team and led several projects in that area. Dr. Trauernicht transitioned to the MEMS area in August 1998, working on MEMS microfluidics and other devices. He designed, evaluated, and optimized a variety of devices including continuous inkjet printheads, thermal drop-on-demand printheads, and thermal bend actuators. At MicroGen, he has helped improve the performance of the piezo-MEMS energy harvesters through creative characterization, analytical modeling and a focus on low power electronic design. Dr. Trauernicht has experience with the challenges faced throughout the product commercialization process from early research, through advanced development, and the demands of manufacturing. Dr. Trauernicht earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has over 70 issued U.S. patents and 25 publications, along with many conference presentations. He is a member of the American Physical Society and SPIE.
