Rob Griffiths is Director of Technical and Regulatory Affairs, Design and Engineering at Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) in Washington DC, where he develops, presents, negotiates, and implements global industry positions on legislative, regulatory, and policy matters involving shipboard design and engineering matters. He is accredited to the International Maritime Organization where he represents the global cruise industry during international treaty negotiations and other matters. He is also the designated Secretary to the CLIA Global Committee on Maritime Safety Matters as well as the Cruise Ship Safety Forum and its Steering Committee. Rob has diverse expertise in maritime safety and marine environmental protection. Having retired from the U.S. Coast Guard with over 25 years of service, he has held various technical and operational positions including as program manager in Washington DC, where he oversaw the independent testing labs and related equipment approvals for shipboard pollution prevention equipment, as well as chief of waterways management in Los Angeles/Long Beach, flag State and port State inspector, migrant interdiction officer in Miami, search and rescue controller in San Diego, operations officer and law enforcement boarding officer on a patrol boat in Miami, and as a quartermaster on a medium endurance cutter in St. Petersburg, Fla. He has over 6 years at-sea experience. He is a 2007 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., where he received his Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering, and a 1999 graduate of San Diego State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice with distinction.
