Rachael Ammons Whitaker is currently a assistant professor and field experience coordinator for the school counseling program at Lamar University in Beaumont TX. She has worked as a behavioral therapist, behavioral interventionist supervisor, and school counselor before pursuing counselor education. In 2014 Rachael was awarded the national Courtland Lee Multicultural Excellence award from American Counseling Association. Rachael’s professional obligations currently consist of, Southeast Texas Counseling Association legislative liaison, Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling social media chair, and peer reviewer for the Journal of College Counseling and the Journal of Asynchronous Learning Network. She currently supervises Lamar interns placed at Wheatley School of the Early Childhood Program in Port Author, TX providing mental health services to undeserved children and families. She provides individual therapy for several refeed child and adolescence clients at Lamar’s Cardinal Clinic. Rachael continues to implant herself in education and clinical sides of the counseling profession. Her current research involves beliefs and implementation in the American School Counseling Association National Model, best practice in autism spectrum disorder, and online counselor education.
