Sandy-Ann Maria Griffith is a first year Ph.D. student in Counselor Education and Supervision, a Graduate Teaching Instructor, and a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Counseling and Human Services at Old Dominion University.  She received her Master of Arts in Counselor Education with an emphasis in mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, and play therapy from the University of Central Florida in May 2011.  Her past work experience includes serving as a Family Services Counselor, Relationship Educator, Workshop Coordinator, and Service Learning Supervisor on a federally funded research grant (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Family Assistance, Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood).  She worked on this research grant, Project T.O.G.E.T.H.E.R, at the University of Central Florida Marriage and Family Research Institute for four years.  She is also a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in the State of Florida, a National Certified Counselor, and she is also a trained facilitator of multiple couple and relationship education curricula including Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP), Becoming Parents Program (BPP), and Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills (PAIRS).  Her past research interest and publication include an exploration of cross-cultural differences in attitudes toward domestic violence between Trinidadian and American college students.  Currently, her research interests include the impact of mass incarceration on the African American family unit, re-entry programs and relationship education for incarcerated minority fathers, and the interpersonal dynamics of father-child relationships in the African American community.
