Elias (Eli) Zambrano, Ph.D., is a clinical assistant professor and school counseling program coordinator in the Department of Counseling, College of Education and Human Development, at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He has served as an elementary and middle school counselor in various school districts reflecting a diversity of ethnic, racial, and socio-economic communities in rural, urban, and suburban settings. He served as San Antonio’s Northside Independent School District’s (NISD) coordinator of the federally funded Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Program. While at NISD, he was awarded two Department of Education grants totaling 9 million dollars targeting prevention and intervention efforts to all district students, families, and guardians in support of positive lifestyles and school success. Eli then served as NISD’s Director of Guidance and Counseling Services before retiring to enter the UTSA doctoral program.   Eli has maintained active participation and leadership in counseling professional organizations.  His professional service has included president of the Texas Counseling Association, board member and treasurer of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), and treasurer of the American Counseling Association.  Research interests include the globalization of the counseling profession and the professional role and identity of school counselors.
