Richard Tyler-Walker
Assistant Director
North Carolina State University Counseling Center

I have been a LPC since 1996 and a Counselor Educator since 2002.  In this time, I have sought to use my training and experience, both as a gay man and a helping professional, to become an intentional advocate promoting growth in the profession and an advocate for LGBT persons.  I have worked in a variety of clinical settings in my career, but have been at NC State University Counseling Center since 2003.  Here, I am the assistant director over Training, Assessment, and Multicultural Initiatives.  I believe that as counselors and teachers we are a guide, responsible for leading clients and students on a journey of discovery.  My belief about training counselor educators is to increase their understanding of themselves while simultaneously presenting and introducing techniques, skills, and practices that these individuals will employ in their clinical work.
