Nevin J. Heard is a doctoral student in the Counselor Education program at the University of Central Florida, entering the program directly after completing his master’s in Clinical Counseling from the Ohio State University. He has experience working with the African-American community on a clinical, school, and organizational level. His experience working with members of the African American community in clinical and mental health capacities involved work with clients with severe mental health issues, in crisis, and outreach. In the school setting, he worked as a teaching associate for an enrichment program for underrepresented communities where the majority of the students identified as African American. Additionally, he also has experience working with African-Americans on a organizational level through volunteering his efforts to meet the needs of African American communities through national and local organizations including: NAACP, Brothers Reaching Out, SHADES, Hands Across Campus, Multicultural Understanding through New Discovery Opportunities (MUNDO), and the Greater Columbus Mpowerment Center.
