John Haller is a Member of the Technical Staff on the Cybersecurity Assurance team within the CERT® Division at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a unit of Carnegie Mellon University. John supports a portfolio of cybersecurity assessment and measurement tools, including the Department of Homeland Security Cyber Resilience Review (CRR). These tools have been used to assess cybersecurity capability and provide improvement recommendations for over three hundred critical infrastructures over the last three years, including organizations in the financial, energy, and transportation industries. John focuses in particular on processes, tools, and techniques for managing supply chain and external dependency risk. John leads a project to help U.S. critical infrastructure assess and improve their capability in this area. In conjunction with other CERT staff, he has recently completed the construction of a set of publicly available tools for this purpose. Prior to joining CERT in 2010, John supported United States federal law enforcement agencies with research and analysis focusing on cybercrime actors and attack methods. A U.S. Army veteran, John holds a Juris Doctor (cum laude) and Master in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh, and is also a CISSP.
