Matthew Hayes
Operational Project Manager
UNC Health Care

Matt Hayes grew up in woods of Wisconsin before he headed north to Minnesota to study at UMN-Twin Cities. Soon after graduating he followed the Mississippi down to New Orleans where he began his MPH at Tulane. Matt met his amazing wife in New Orleans where they enjoyed the city together for several years. During that time they spent most weeks on the road working as EMR consultants at various hospital systems. There last consulting job was at the University of North Carolina, an organization and state they immediately fell in love with. Matt and his wife soon landed full time positions at UNC Health Care. Since then Matt has worked in the Outpatient Care Services department of Training and Professional Development. In his short time here he’s advanced quickly and is now an Operational Project Manager working on several improvement initiatives. Matt really enjoys this role as it allows him to work on a diverse array of projects, problems, and health care system goals while affording him lots of opportunities to explore ways to improve workflows, efficiencies, and provider satisfaction. He designed, developed and implemented a novel training program working primarily with physicians to improve their EMR efficiency. His team has received the support of senior leadership and they continue to grow and explore new opportunities. When he’s not at work he loves being outside with his wife and two golden retrievers. As an Eagle Scout, Matt loves to hike, camp, canoe, and garden.
