In her current role, Gurney oversees the areas of academics, compliance, sports medicine, sports performance, finance, and human resources. She also has oversight of the administration of Kansas City's 14 sport programs. She represents the Athletics Department as a member of the Summit League’s Joint Council and serves as a member of the Director of Athletics Senior Staff. Gurney served on the NCAA Division I Committee of Academics (COA) from 2017-2021 and was appointed the Chair of the COA’s Subcommittee on Student-Athlete Academics from 2019-2021. In 2020 Gurney was presented the Women Leaders in Sports Division I Nike Administrator of the Year award. Gurney is also an active member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A). She has served from 2012-2022 on N4A's Board of Directors, serving as the President of N4A in 2020-2021. She is also faculty member for the N4A's Professional Development Institute (PDI) Leader/Manager Track. In 2018 she was awarded the N4A's Distinguished Service Award, and in 2015 she was awarded N4A's Lan Hewlett Award, an honor presented to those who demonstrate an unyielding commitment to the profession. Gurney most recently completed the NCAA Pathway Program in 2022-2023.
