Malena Brookshire is a public finance executive and board advisor, with more than two decades of executive-level leadership spanning three federal government agencies, state and local government, and nonprofits. She most recently served as CFO of AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and currently serves as CFO for Calvert County, Maryland. Prior to this, Malena served in leadership roles at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, three U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Office of Management and Budget. Her leadership has been recognized nationally, and she has been named a 2026 George Washington University Trachtenberg School of Public Policy & Public Administration Impact Alumni Honoree and one of the Top 25 CFOs of the DC Metro Area by Finance and Investing. Malena specializes in aligning operations and strategy, guiding organizations during periods of significant change. She has led organizations in navigating growth, risk, and regulatory complexity, driving sustainable results. Malena has established risk-based decision frameworks that guide strategic resource decisions, led enterprise-wide reform efforts that strength mission delivery and infrastructure, and steered the implementation of multimillion-dollar tech investments. Malena has also served as Board Chair and Board Treasurer for nonprofit organizations. Malena is a Certified Government Financial Manager and certified Project Management Professional. Malena holds a Master of Public Administration with a focus in Public Budgeting and Finance, as well as bachelor’s degrees in economics and mathematics.
