Dan heads James McHugh Construction Co.'s legal team. He is an officer of the company and a member of its management committee. His responsibilities range from negotiating contracts to overseeing legal disputes to assisting the company in setting and implementing various policies and training. Dan works with the executives and project teams throughout the company to assist them in delivering the company's services to McHugh's clients. Prior to joining McHugh, Dan was a partner with Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLP, a large international law firm and before Sheppard Mullin, he was a partner at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, LLP, which merged with K&L Gates, one of the largest international law firms in the world. While in private practice, Dan focused on construction, real-estate, insurance recovery and litigation matters. Dan tried and arbitrated multiple construction matters to verdict or judgment. He also negotiated a wide range of construction related contracts. Additionally, Dan was regularly engaged to assist construction companies' purchasing other companies in their diligence and assessment of the risk of the purchase. While in private practice, his clients included owners (both institutional and developers), general contractors, designers and subcontractors. Before leaving law firm practice, Dan was recognized as a top construction attorney by such legal evaluators as Chambers and Partners, the Leading Lawyer Network, and the Legal 500. Dan has written and spoken extensively about a wide number of issues related to the construction industry. Today he is active in the American Bar Association, as well as other construction related organizations and is an elected member of the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys.
