Shawn New has over 20 years’ experience in the field of Petroleum Data Management, with positions at Marathon, Shell, Chevron, and Maersk Oil. Since 2011 he has worked for BHP, where he leads a team of data managers providing embedded support for geoscience staff. He is also Vice-Chair of the SEG Technical Standards Committee. Shawn earned his CPDA (Certified Petroleum Data Analyst) through PPDM in May 2018, and now serves on their Petroleum Data Management Certification Committee (PDMCC), made up of subject matter experts dedicated to advancing professional development for data managers through certification programs. He has developed in his career through mentoring, formal and informal data management and geoscience training, and networking with peers at various industry events like PNEC. Shawn believes that sound (but practical) data governance, standards and processes are key to delivering high quality data to geoscientists.
