Dr. Patrick Hayes is a Professor of Barley Breeding and Genetics at Oregon State University. Pat’s research team focuses on barley in its many forms and uses. His current research areas include development of covered and naked malting barley varieties (think Thunder and Buck and beyond); the many facets of winter hardiness and disease resistance (think dealing with climate change); and exploring the contributions of barley (via malt) to beer flavor.
