May spent 25 years in church ministry as a pastor. During that time, he also served as a Navy Reserve Chaplain. In 2012, he became a freelance writer, submitting stories of military veterans for publication in local newspapers. He published his first book, Our Service Our Stories, in 2015. It tells the service stories of World War II veterans. His current book is the second volume in that series.
