Thomas Walls
Thomas Walls is the UAS Technical Trainer for NCDOT. In his role he works in data processing, flight operations and training. In 2018 he was part of the Hurricane Florence NCDOT command center and assisted in flight assignment and mission planning. He has been an employee of NCDOT for the past 18 years, spending 17 years as a Photogrammetrist where he specialized in the data collection and processing for the state, LIDAR processing and the units CADD Coordinator. Thomas served in the US Army in the 80’s serving as a 13fox (Fire Direction Specialist) and as a 35G (Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst). After the military he attended the University of Nebraska and received an A.A.S. in Construction Inspection and Surveying Science and started in NEDOT with the Photogrammetry Unit doing Geodetic Surveying, Stereo compilation and Aerial Photography for 5 years. He later moved to MNDOT Photogrammetry Unit where he was doing all phases of Photogrammetric processes for 5 years before relocating to NC. Thomas Walls is also a Part 107 Remote Pilot and flies both fixed and rotor wing platforms.
