Lieutenant Colonel Smith is the Materiel Leader, Enhanced Polar System (EPS) Branch, Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles AFB, California. He is responsible for developing the payload, ground, and gateway segments, and interfacing with warfighter terminals (air, ground, ship, and submarine) for the $1.3 billion EPS and $1.2 billion EPS-Recapitalization (EPS-R) joint-service programs. EPS and EPS-R deliver secure, jam-resistant communications service for Combatant Commanders to provide strategic and tactical communications throughout all levels of conflict in the North Polar Region.
Prior to his current assignment, Lt Col Smith completed a master’s degree at the College of Naval Command and Staff, U.S. Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. His other assignments include Executive Officer to the Dean of the Faculty and Assistant Professor of Management at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Project Manager in the MILSATCOM Special Projects Branch, Overhead Persistent Infrared Staff Director to the Program Executive Officer for Space, Chief of Business Operations in the Space Based Infrared Systems Directorate, Headquarters U.S. Special Operations Command Ghost Deployment Program, and Satellite Vehicle Operator in the 4th Space Operations Squadron. Lt Col Smith also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
