Temple Grandin, Ph.D.




Temple Grandin, Ph.D., is a pioneer in improving the handling and welfare of farm animals. Dr. Temple’s achievements are remarkable because she was diagnosed at age 2 with autism. In 1975 she earned her master’s degree in animal science at Arizona State University and received her doctorate in animal science from the University of Illinois in 1989. She is currently a professor at Colorado State University. Dr. Grandin is known for her innovative designs of cattle handling facilities and meat plants, and for developing animal welfare guidelines for the meat industry. She has published hundreds of industry publications, book chapters and technical papers on animal handling, 73 journal articles, and more than a dozen books, including “Animals in Translation,” a New York Times bestseller published in 2014. The HBO movie "Temple Grandin" about her life and career received seven Emmy awards, a Golden Globe, and a Peabody Award.
