Derek Strausbaugh leads initiatives that enable mission-focused outcomes for Microsoft’s customers and partners in the national security sector. He is responsible for working with internal Microsoft product groups, sales and business functions to define the technical sales, solutions and product strategy adoption of Microsoft’s cloud technologies by the US Federal national security market. Prior to assuming his current role in 2025, Derek was the Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft Federal’s US Department of Defense business and ran a team that focused on product incubation. Additionally, Derek was a Principal Program Manager for the Azure Government Engineering team where he led the programs for the Department of Defense market segment - driving innovation within Microsoft Azure engineering to support the DoD mission and working with DoD programs and partners to establish secure, value-added solutions using Microsoft’s Azure and Azure Government platforms. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2011, Derek was the Director of Consulting Servicesfor RDA Corporation’s Federal practice where he led business development activities and managed large professional services engagements in the Federal Civilian and Defense markets. Derek has over twenty-five years of federal and commercial industry experience in a variety of technical and program and project management roles including consulting, full lifecycle software development and operations with a focus on data and analytics, as well as application development using Microsoft and open source technologies. Derek holds several technical and project management certifications and is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. He lives with his wife and two children in Northern Virginia.
