Laurie Ann Guerrero
Former San Antonio and Texas Poet Laureate



Laurie was born and raised on the southside of San Antonio. She is the author of four collections, including A Tongue in the Mouth of the Dying (Notre Dame 2013), A Crown for Gumecindo (Aztlan Libre 2015), and I Have Eaten the Rattlesnake: New & Selected Poems (TCU 2021). She served as poet laureate of San Antonio from 2014–16 and the poet laureate of Texas from 2016–17. She is the Writer-in-Residence at Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
