Fernandez Boards is the chief financial officer at the U.S. Census Bureau, where he plays a pivotal role in overseeing the organization's financial management, budgetary activities and procurement operations. His responsibilities encompass a wide spectrum of fiscal duties, and he provides essential strategic financial leadership to support the Census Bureau's mission. Fernandez has a wealth of experience in federal financial management spanning over 20 years. He previously served as the deputy chief financial officer and director of Finance at the Census Bureau, overseeing financial management and accounting. Prior to joining the Census Bureau, he held the role of director of the Office of Budget at the Bureau of Industry and Security, where he served as the top financial management authority and advisor, managing budget and financial resource activities. Preceding this, Fernandez worked as a senior analyst in the Office of the Secretary, Office of Financial Management, with responsibility for budget formulation and execution for the Department of Commerce's chief information officer. Before his service at the Department of Commerce, he was the installation financial manager for Joint Bases Anacostia-Bolling, responsible for installation financial operations. His extensive career also includes financial management roles during his service in the United States Air Force. A native of Kentucky, Fernandez currently resides just outside the District of Columbia in Maryland. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southwestern College, as well as a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration from Strayer University.
