Dr. Jason Conaway is the Director of Special Education for Alleghany Highlands Public Schools. He has been in education for 22 years, serving students in many capacities. He was a special education teacher for students with autism, intellectual disabilities, emotional behavior disorders, and learning disabilities. Dr. Conaway is a National Certified School Psychologist and was a school psychologist in West Virginia and Ohio public schools. He was a school administrator at a middle school, overseeing special education in many capacities. Dr. Conaway worked for the West Virginia Department of Education, where his duties included overseeing autism, behavior, and Federal Indicators 10, 4, and 8. He has done numerous presentations in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, and on the national stage. He has presented on multiple topics, including autism, understanding behavior, best instructional practices for special education students, high expectations, student engagement, time on task, behavior, and discipline, providing special education accommodations in the general education classroom, and best practices for special education students in the least restrictive environment. Dr. Conaway has authored several publications specific to supporting students with autism, administrator’s perception of special education students, and understanding behavior.
