Dr. MaryKay Berry earned a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education in 1997 and a master’s degree in special education in 2001 – both from Piedmont University. She obtained a specialist degree in 2008 from the University of North Georgia and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University in 2012. Throughout her educational career, Dr. Berry has held various roles in support of students with disabilities. For the past decade, she has been at the helm of the Student Services Department in White County, leading the team as the Director. Under her guidance, the district has fostered a robust team of special education coordinators, school psychologists, counselors, mental health specialists, parent mentor, MTSS coordinators, lead teachers, 504 coordinators, and special education teachers, making a significant impact on the lives of students'. She is a recipient of the 2016 G-CASE Outstanding New Special Education Director, 2017 Phil Pickens Parent Mentor Leadership Award, 2021 G-CASE Lillie Muncus Special Education Administrator Award, and the 2022 Pioneer in Education Award. Dr. Berry supports G-CASE as the President-Elect for 2026. She is perceived as a leader in the North GLRS Special Education Director group and graciously gives her time and expertise to mentor others.
