Associate Professor Early Childhood Education

and Academic Curriculum at the University of Oklahoma. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in child development, social-emotional learning and child guidance, assessment, and early childhood education curriculum and instruction. Dr. Dewhirst’s research focuses on child development and teacher preparation. She has published in many of the major journals such as Journal of Research in Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education Journal, Early Child Development and Care, and Action in Teacher Education. She serves as the program coordinator for the early childhood education program on the Norman campus and faculty liaison for the OU laboratory preschool, the Institute of Child Development.
