Dr. Heiligenthaler currently serves as the Chief Officer of Special Education and Student Supports, a role in which she oversees the development and implementation of programs designed to support students with diverse needs. With a career dedicated to advancing educational equity, she has spent years advocating for inclusive practices and services that enhance the educational experience for all students, particularly those with special needs. Dr. Heiligenthaler' academic background reflects a Bachelor of Science in Intensive Special Needs and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Boston University. Her undergraduate studies laid the foundation for her commitment to understanding the complexities of human development and the unique challenges faced by students with disabilities. Building on this foundation, she pursued a Master’s degree in Human Development with a focus on Elementary Education and Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development from Pacific Oaks College. This program further honed her expertise in educational practices, emphasizing the importance of cultural sensitivity and language development in supporting diverse learners. Driven by a desire to understand the intersection of law and education, Dr. Heiligenthaler obtained a Master’s degree in Legal Studies from Santa Barbara College of Law. Her legal education has equipped her with an understanding of the legal frameworks surrounding educational rights, special education services, and student advocacy, making her an effective advocate for students and families. Dr. Heiligenthaler further expanded her academic journey by earning a Ph.D. in Organizational Systems from Saybrook University. This research provides her with a comprehensive, systems-oriented perspective that informs her leadership in creating more effective, responsive educational environments.
