Dr. Amy Herrman is the Career Education Special Needs Planner (CESNP) for the Missouri Department of Education (DESE). She holds a doctorate in education from William Woods University and a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. With over thirty years of experience in education, Dr. Herrman has served as a teacher, principal, and director. She retired as Director from Rolla Technical Institute/Center and now dedicates her expertise to DESE. In her role as CESNP, Dr. Herrman is a pivotal resource, supporting DESE, administrators, special education educators, and Career Technical Education (CTE) instructors. She provides professional development on CTE placements and effective strategies for accommodating and modifying instruction for special needs students. Dr. Herrman has been recognized with numerous accolades, including Missouri HOSA Administrator of the Year 2021, South Central MASSP District Assistant Principal of the Year 2015, and multiple National Honor Society Most Influential Educator awards. She was also a Huffman Award nominee from 2000-2008, winning twice, and received the Quality Teaching Award in 2001-2002. Passionate about creating opportunities for marginalized students, Dr. Herrman influences legislation, participates in state planning, and develops instructional resources to enhance the educational landscape.
