Michael Butler is the Chief Engineer for the Department of Defense Network in the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Command, Control, Communications, and Computers Directorate (J-6). In this position, he’s responsible for overseeing the service operations and enterprise architecture for the DODNet information technology network. He leads DODNet expansion, optimization, and migration efforts, with a focus on streamlining the end user experience. Prior to joining DISA, Butler supported the federal government as a contractor, leading engineering teams and serving as a Program Manager for the Justice and State departments. He joined DISA in 2020 as the Senior Systems Architect for the DODNet Technical Plans Branch, designing the first-generation network services to support DODNet migrations, working with industry partners to pilot solutions, and developing roadmaps for future service capabilities. In 2022, he served as Deputy for the IT Services Division. He holds a bachelor’s in information systems from University of Maryland, Baltimore.
