Robert Johnson is responsible for overseeing the engineering, release and deployment, and cybersecurity branches for the Department of Defense Network information technology network. DODNet operates and maintains a dynamic and highly contested portfolio of services supporting war agencies, field commands, and Department of War national military objectives and requirements. The DODNet mission is to deliver reliable IT services, with high availability to a global network infrastructure supporting mission partners, DOW headquarters, and subordinate organizations across multiple classifications. Johnson began his IT career as a 25N Nodal Network Systems Operator-Maintainer for the Maryland Army National Guard in 2010. He quickly rose to the rank of sergeant and served as the Joint Network Node Team Chief till his deployment to Iraq in 2017 where he served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge for Network Operations for the 449th Combat Aviation Brigade. He became a 255S Cyber Defense Warrant Officer in 2021 and now serves as an M-Day Chief Warrant Officer Two for the Defensive Cyber Operations Element in the Maryland Army National Guard. Johnson began working for the federal government as a contractor in 2015 supporting the Bureau of Diplomatic Security within the Department of State as a Helpdesk Specialist. He was promoted to Network Engineer a year later doing installation and support for state annexes and field offices. Following his deployment, he accepted a Senior Network Engineer contract position with Defense Information Systems Agency in 2018 supporting DISANET and becoming the subject matter expert for the Joint Regional Security Stack. Johnson was offered a federal civilian employee position in 2019 with the Technical Planning Branch and began serving in 2020. Johnson has designed and implemented networks supporting DISA Pacific Headquarters, Compartmentalized Enterprise Services Office, and the Distributed Continuity Integrated Network. In 2024, he served as the Lead Network Architect, before accepting his current role as Deputy Chief Engineer.
