Derek Kernus serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aethon Security, leading the company’s strategic direction, operational execution, and long-term growth. He partners with customers, teammates, and key stakeholders to deliver mission critical cybersecurity and security services, aligning performance with organizational priorities and values. As CEO, Derek oversees corporate governance, policy development, and the business systems that enable sustainable, scalable delivery. Derek ensures Aethon Security helps both prime contractors and subcontractors meet DoD supply-chain cybersecurity requirements, including CMMC Level 2 alignment for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). He guides controls implementation, evidence readiness, and governance so partners can prepare for assessments and sustain compliant performance throughout the contract lifecycle. His focus is helping partners meet program requirements with clear scope, measurable outcomes, and dependable delivery. A seasoned cybersecurity and business leader, Derek brings extensive experience from executive roles across the defense industrial base and managed security services sector. He has a strong record of helping organizations strengthen their cybersecurity posture and navigate rigorous security assessments and third-party evaluations. His leadership strengths include building high performing teams, cultivating trusted partnerships with federal agencies and prime contractors, and fostering a culture of transparency, integrity, collaboration, and respect. Derek holds an MBA from William & Mary and advanced cybersecurity certifications, including CISSP, CCSP, and Certified CMMC Assessor, which he applies to help organizations interpret requirements, implement controls, and prepare for CMMC Level 2 assessments.
