Tanya Harris

Dr. Tanya Harris has served the County of Riverside for over 23 years. She began her career with the Department of Behavioral Health, where she spent three years before joining the Auditor-Controller’s Office (ACO), where she currently serves as the Assistant Auditor-Controller. In her current role, Dr. Harris oversees the ACO Administration Division, General Accounting Division, and Property Tax Division. She brings extensive private sector experience to her position, having previously served as Assistant Controller for Stater Bros. Markets, Accounting Manager for Canon USA and Symbol Technologies, and Accounting Officer for the Department of the Navy. Dr. Harris holds both a Doctorate and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from California Baptist University, where she has also served as an Adjunct Professor for the past eight years. Her dissertation, titled “Employee Engagement: The Path to Understanding Public Sector Silent Heroes – Millennial Accountants,” reflects her passion for organizational effectiveness and public service. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a graduate of the University of California, Riverside’s Accounting for Governmental and Non-Profit Certification Program. Dr. Harris is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the states of California and Virginia. She currently serves as Chair of the California State Association of County Auditors Policy and Interpretation Subcommittee and Chair of the California Baptist University History and Government Advisory Council. She is a former Treasurer for the Inland Empire Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration and former President of the Association of Government Accountants, Inland Empire Chapter. Additionally, she is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association and the California Society for Municipal Finance Officers.
