Robert D. Sholtis is assigned as the Chief Information Officer and Deputy G6 at US Marine Forces Pacific. In his current role, Bob is focused on helping MARFORPAC adapt faster to the demands of contested operations in the Indo-Pacific. His work includes advancing resilient digital infrastructure, trusted data environments, AI-enabled decision support, cyber integration, and joint and partner command-and-control. He has helped shape innovative efforts that connect warfighter requirements, industry capabilities, data governance, cloud modernization, and operational experimentation into practical capabilities for commanders and staffs. Prior to his arrival, he a served with the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy where he served as a Country Director, China. In that role, he led portfolios for Artificial Intelligence, Legislative Affairs, China Trade and Economic deterrence for OSD, and focused on providing global policy and guidance for innovation, economic, and technology competition. He also spent 10 years leading the Marine Corps’ ground forces C2 and S&T Section, driving USMC C2 Systems and Applications Concepts throughout multiple facets of the Marine Corps and Joint Forces. There he led USMC ground integration of cyber, science and technology, and C2 sections; developed Artificial Intelligence strategy and advocated for more than 56 C2 and Cyber Programs of Record ensuring their prioritization and execution within budget, time, and capability. A prior Marine, career Civil Servant and Defense Senior Leader Development graduate, he has been acknowledged as mentor to senior leaders and led a DOD technology company synchronizing the US defense industrial base on key DoD technology needs.
