John Johnston, CPA, MHA, brings more than 25 years of health care executive experience to his role as National Partner of Optum Advisory services. In this role, Mr. Johnston leads a team of consultants focused on large-scale margin improvement and cost reduction, with deep subject-matter expertise in care redesign, workforce management, resource utilization, length of stay (“LOS”) reduction, nursing, emergency department services, perioperative services, care management, revenue cycle, supply chain, labor productivity and strategy. He has assisted standalone hospitals and multihospital systems in developing and implementing complex strategies to succeed in the post-reform environment. Mr. Johnston led more than 100 engagements, including developing strategies to achieve sustainable financial performance under Medicare rates, large-scale margin improvement initiatives, rapid turnarounds to meet bond requirements, cost-per-case improvement, hospital care redesign and LOS reduction, service line growth and profitability strategies.
