Colonel Armes is a decorated combat veteran who has served as a Marine infantryman for 27 years. He holds a degree in Business Administration from California Lutheran University and a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He is currently serving as the Director of the Marine Corps Fitness Division, which is the service level agency responsible for the development of policy, standards, oversight, synchronization, and coordination of all elements of physical fitness in order to enable a professional, service-wide approach to enhancing the physical conditioning of the warrior athlete. As a triathlete, he has represented the Marine Corps & the U.S. in numerous national and international competitions. At the 2015 World Military Games in Korea he helped propel the U.S. squad to a bronze medal against an international field of elite athletes. He served as the U.S. Chief of Mission at the 2017 World Military Triathlon Championships in Germany and the 2018 World Military Triathlon Championships in Sweden. He is a USATF & USA Cycling certified coach, two time California State Champion in triathlon and duathlon, 2016 Camp Pendleton Athlete of the year and 2016 Marine Corps Athlete of the year. His wife is a high school Cross Country / Track Coach. His oldest son ran for Auburn University and is now a professional triathlete with the US National Triathlon Team, and his youngest son is a swimmer at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
