Melony Goodhand is an attorney, CPA, has a master’s degree in health administration and business and is an RN. She spent 15 years as a financial, cost reduction, and performance improvement consultant with Coopers & Lybrand, Ernst & Young, McManis Associates, and Mecon. More recently she has served as a CFO and vice chancellor of a $1.4 billion academic medical center and CFO of two other health systems for more than 16 years, including a role as a hospital COO.
Ms. Goodhand decided she wanted to be able to impact patient care more directly. Subsequently, she returned to patient care but with the eyes of an executive. She has worked as an RN at four well known not-for-profit health systems in and around Chicago and one nationally known Chicago academic medical center. That experience included surgery, telemetry, orthopedics, medical surgical, neuro ICU, and home health. She also had the interesting experience of being on the front lines and attending union organizing meetings during a nursing union campaign at an academic medical center, until the union kicked her out… She reports on what really happens on the front lines and how to better engage clinicians.
