Joe Matthews
Independent Arbitrator and Mediator



Joe Matthews is a full time independent arbitrator and mediator, a Fellow and Chartered Arbitrator of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators. He was for 12 years a member of the Board of Directors and for three years the Executive Committee of the American Arbitration Association and he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Dispute Board Federation. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Miami, School of Law where he was recipient of the Wesley Sturges Award, graduating first in his class in 1977. Mr. Matthews has been an arbitrator for more than 30 years and has served in cases administered by the American Arbitration Association, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes, the London Court of International Arbitration and the ICC International Court of Arbitration, as well as ad hoc proceedings. He was a trial and appellate advocate before courts and arbitral tribunals for over 40 years, during which he was inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (President 2015), the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has served as advocate, arbitrator or mediator in many hundreds of cases involving a wide range of business disputes, construction, insurance, employment and international business and investment conflicts. Mr. Matthews is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Mediator and a CEDR Certified Mediator. He is a member of the Panel of Mediators appointed by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the AAA Panel of Mediators. He can be contacted at Joseph M.
