Rob Caldwell is president of Duke Energy Renewables and Distributed Energy Technology, and leads the company’s Commercial Portfolio business. The commercial portfolio consists of the company’s nonregulated renewable energy and electric transmission businesses. In addition to assuming his current position in July 2016, Caldwell also has responsibility for distributed energy resources and wholesale power sales for Duke Energy’s regulated utilities. In this role, he is responsible for developing policies, strategies and business development activities related to distributed energy resources, which includes solar photovoltaic, distributed and renewable generation; cogeneration/combined heat and power; and energy storage. He is responsible for the regulated utilities’ compliance with renewable portfolio standards. His responsibilities also include wholesale power origination, both on the purchase and sales side, and wholesale power contract management activities. Caldwell began his career with Progress Energy in 1998 and held various leadership positions. He has managed strategic planning, fuel procurement, power marketing and trading, energy efficiency, demand side management, electric vehicles, smart grid and emerging technology. A native of Michigan, Caldwell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Michigan State University. He is currently vice chair of the board of directors for Advanced Energy and serves as a director of NC GreenPower. He is chairman of the Charlotte-based energy accelerator, CLT Joules. He is also a member of the North Carolina Energy Policy Council. Caldwell and his wife, Linda, have three children and two grandchildren.
